Great Plains Studies meets on campus from June 24-28, 2002, from 9:00 a.m. until approximately 9:00 p.m. on Monday through Thursday and from 9:00 a.m. until noon on Friday. The Introductory class session will be held in the Thomas Hall Atrium at 8:30 on Monday, the first day of classes. Friday afternoon is reserved for individual conferences with Dr. Peek or Dr. Bloomfield and library research. Undergraduates should enroll in English 458 for three hours credit. Graduate students wanting three credits should enroll in English 858P for two hours credit plus English 892P for one hour credit. There is an additional program fee of $15.00 (made out to the Friends of English)for all students due on June 24 that will cover mailings, picnic, outside specialists, and other refreshments.

Reading for the course takes place off Campus June 17-21. The following are the tentative books to be studied: Prairie Mosaic edited by Steve Rothenberger and Susanne George Bloomfield, "Obsure Destinies" in Collected Stories by Willa Cather, The Dance House: Tales from Rosebud by Joseph Marshall III, Skins by Adrian Louis, "O Yes" in Tell Me a Riddle by Tillie Olsen, and And the Earth Did Not Devour Him by Tomas Rivera. In addition, a writing project will be completed off campus July 1-5 while the due date to be announced later. The reading list as well as the writing project guidelines will also be sent when students register.
